In the mist-shrouded marshes of the Marais Poitevin, a proud heron named Héron scorns every meal the waters offer. Each day he stands motionless, his beady eyes scanning the shallows for a fish worthy of his elegance. But when a mysterious shimmering fish appears, offering him the perfect catch, Héron‘s pride becomes his undoing. As the fog thickens and the marsh begins to whisper, a wizened fisherman warns him of the curse that claims those who refuse the gifts of the water. Yet Héron dismisses the old man’s tales, convinced of his own superiority. In this haunting retelling of La Fontaine‘s fable, the boundary between hunger and obsession blurs, and the heron’s relentless pursuit of an ideal meal leads him down a path of no return. The Silence of the Shallows is a dark meditation on pride, emptiness, and the sinister fate that awaits those who cannot see beyond their own reflection.
