In the tranquil village of Ban Khok, where the scent of jasmine mingles with the smoke of cooking fires, lives Somchai, a man who would rather nap under a mango tree than lift a finger. His patient wife, Mali, toils from dawn to dusk, while Somchai dreams of a life free from work. One day, fleeing his chores, he stumbles upon a wise hermit deep in the forest. Blinded by his own idleness, Somchai wishes for an easier way to feed himself—to reach the sweetest fruit without the trouble of climbing. The hermit, seeing the folly in his heart, grants his wish in a way that changes him forever. This gentle, warm-hearted tale reveals the true origin of the gibbon's long arms, weaving a timeless lesson about the value of effort and the hidden costs of laziness.
