I took a last glance at my phone to make sure this was the place. The apartment block looked like every other, a big tower of concrete signifying a lower to middle class lifestyle in Japan's capital city. The last text message sent from her said that she'd be lovingly waiting for me on the top floor, where her apartment was. I was excited to hang out with her and maybe even get lucky if things went well between us tonight; but first I have to stop daydreaming and actually get there. So I entered the building through one of its many entrances—a door covered with advertisements for local restaurants. The lighting was somewhat dim inside, so it didn't feel very welcoming. I paced past the various things you'd see at the bottom floor of an apartment block, the wall of mailboxes next to which had some small flyers pinned up here and there about upcoming events or sales happening around town, and a few vending machines selling drinks were illuminated under a single light post. A drink would be nice if it wasn't already quite late, making me more interested in just skipping all that and getting to the elevator. To my surprise, the elevator was nicer than its surroundings. The inside was a pleasant kind of light wood-tone color that reminded me of a hotel lobby. To my sides, mirrors were affixed to the walls that created the "infinite" effect that always looks cool. I pressed the button for the tenth floor, and waited patiently as the elevator began its ascent. Letting my eyes wander around the moving box, I noticed something wrong with one of the reflections. The reflection maybe three mirrored-elevators away had myself of course, and also the spine-chilling addition of a girl standing right next to me. She looked quite beautiful, her long hair running to her shoulders, but she simply should not exist. As I stared at her confounding existence, she turned to me, facing my true non-reflection. "You came! Thank you..." She had such a warm smile, as if welcoming someone into their home. Her voice was soft, sweet sounding like an angel's song, yet it was so much more inviting than any real human being could ever hope to be; it was almost too perfect to be believed. "Wait... are you my date?" I asked in confusion, trying to understand what was happening. She gave a happy nod, and began walking towards me. When she reached one reflection of the elevator, she would hop over it as if the mirror didn't exist, closer to where I was waiting on the other side. "Come on over, okay? Take my hand," She reached out one hand, which passed through the mirror and into the "true" elevator I myself was in. Should I take her hand? She seemed innocent enough, but this was all too weird. Still... I took her offered hand. The moment her skin touched mine, my body lurched as she pulled me inside the mirrored-elevator with her. I was now on the other side, and the true horror set in. The elevator was now a darker shade of wood than before, and there were no mirrors at all anymore. Even worse—the girl now looked completely deformed. Her hair became a dark matted mess that covered most of her face, making it look like a mask covering up something horrible underneath; and from what I could see of her face, was hideously twisted and... wrong. Her eyes had been pushed to the corners of her face, her lips in the bottom left and curled unnaturally into a smile, only by way of deformation. It was if her face was smudged like a bad potter mishandled clay while molding it. She clapped her hands in sick delight. "Now we'll be together forever!" I tried to touch the wall where the mirror was before, to get back to reality, or away from her, but it refused my attempts to pass it, acting solid again. I had no power here. The door on the elevator finally opened on the tenth floor, greeting me with a world different to the one I once was in. My elevator opened to some kind of nightmare. The hallway that greeted me was full of flaws that made it entirely uncanny: The walls looked aged and twisted in odd ways. The floors were warped too, none of the tiles perfectly square, more of a suggestion of form rather than an exact shape. The doorways were all crooked, some didn't lead anywhere either. They just ended abruptly as if there should have been another room there, yet nothing existed beyond them except for rusted pipes jutting out of the wall, or some frayed wiring. "Let's have fun..." She giggled as she moved closer towards me. "We can do whatever you want! Just come with me." She grabbed me roughly, pulling me along with her as she led me deeper into this hellish place. "You're my date now," She said happily, her mouth struggling in its effort to accomplish its job of showing excitement.
